CHICAGO (Reuters) - The U.S. Green Party, which captured far less
than 1 percent of the vote in the last presidential election, chose
former Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney as its 2008 presidential
candidate on Saturday.

McKinney, 53, will be joined on the ticket for the November election
by vice presidential candidate Rosa Clemente, a hip-hop artist and
activist.

McKinney received 313 out of 532 votes cast at the party's nominating
convention in Chicago, party spokesman Scott McLarty said.

In 2004, the Green Party drew 119,859 votes, or 0.1 percent of the
total, finishing in sixth place behind the two major parties and three
other third-party tickets.

The party's best performance came in 2000 when Ralph Nader headed the
ticket, and won 2.8 million votes, or 2.7 percent of the total. Some
political analysts say Nader, a political and consumer activist, may
have drawn votes from Democrat Al Gore and helped tip the election to
Republican George W. Bush. Nader is running for president again this
year as an independent.

McKinney served six terms in Congress and lost her 2006 bid for
re-election. She was the first black woman to represent Georgia in the
U.S. House of Representatives.

Another former House member from Georgia, Bob Barr, who served as a
Republican, is running as the Libertarian Party candidate for
president. The major-party candidates are Democrat Barack Obama and
Republican John McCain.

The U.S. Green Party says it is a partner with the European Federation
of Green Parties and the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas.

"Green parties are the first parties to recognize that our role in the
world is stewardship of Earth's natural resources rather than
domination and unrestrained consumption of the goods of the Earth,"
the party said in its proposed platform for the 2008 election.

hmmmmmmmm

The Green Party has named a woman as a presidential pick. Seeing that
another woman is running for president, I wonder how many women will
vote for her based on being a woman. I also wonder if there will be
significant ethnic divide in voting for a black woman for president.
It makes me think of Shirley Chischolm who was also a black woman who
ran for president.

any ways...if liberals..especially female liberals aren't pleased with
Obama, they can vote for McKinney instead.

She has Sun in Pisces like Ralph Nader. Sun trine Jupiter-Uranus seems
progressive,activist....especially when she has Mercury in Aquarius.
Her father was a civil rights activist. She has Jupiter parallel
Uranus which adds to the progressiveness of her Jupiter conjunct
Uranus....a Jupiter-Uranus occultation. Her Saturn trines
Jupiter-Uranus which indicates that she can keep her progressiveness
in check. She can moderate her progressive nature so can be pragmatic.
She actually has Sun in Pisces,Jupiter-Uranus in Cancer,Saturn in
Scorpio grand trine in water indicates a gift of not only
sensitivity, empathy but a gift to blend
idealism,progressiveness,liberalism,conservativism,pragmatism,and
reserve so that they work well together. She can be a moderate
politican if she wanted to. Her Mercury Aquarius trine Neptune seems
to be an inspiring communicator as well as highly idealistic mind. Her
Moon in Capricorn seems practical, ambitious, and no-nonsense and she
Mars in Taurus that can act very steady, reliable, and practical.. but
its square Venus, and so it conflicts with her idealistic, progressive
side. Venus square Mars can be very passionate and she has Venus
contraparallel Mars too....so she has Venus-Mars bilevel. She can be
quite be quite the activist with Venus in Aquarius
squaring/contraparallel Mars as well as the Sun trine Jupiter-Uranus.
She has Venus square/parallel Saturn which can offset that so she can
be practical,security-oriented,ambitious adding to her Moon in
Capricorn. Mercury oppose Pluto indicates her penetrating mind but
there can be some issues with trusting others....communications can be
subtle and manipulation can be involved. Her Saturn square Pluto could
indicate potential power struggles which turn out badly for
her....limited power. She has Jupiter parallel Pluto, and so there
could be powerful expansion. Obama has Jupiter parallel Pluto too.

I don't believe that she will be elected president, but she could get
some respect as a presidential candidate.

Election Day's Mars conjunct her Saturn, trines her Jupiter-Uranus,and
trines her Sun for a Grand Trine.
Election Day's Saturn sextiles her Jupiter and Saturn for a Minor
Grand Trine.
Election Day's Jupiter is opposing and contraparalleling her
Jupiter(Jupiter-Jupiter occultation), and to me, that indicates that
she will be having a lot of optimism and it can be a time for
expansion but I can also see that she could suffer from judgments from
others.

can't see much else without a birthtime.

overall, I believe that her running for president could benefit her by
giving her more recognition and respect....especially by women
including especially the ones that do want a woman president.
